HK Island's CCTV system to be renewed
*

The Transport Department today signed a $16.8 million contract with Univision Engineering Limited to renew the CCTV system on Hong Kong Island and provide subsequent maintenance services.

The works started in September, and will be completed by mid-2006.

The contract includes design, supply and implementation of a new digital CCTV system including a central computer system, 41 on-site CCTV cameras and peripheral equipment, and five years' maintenance services.

The renewed system will provide traffic operators at the department control centre with real time traffic information from CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations, allowing swift reaction to cope with abnormal traffic conditions and traffic incidents.

The existing CCTV system has been in operation since 1993 and is approaching the end of its serviceable life.
