Although the reduction in stopping points for cross-boundary coach services might cause some inconvenience to travellers, operations at Lok Ma Chau control point are now more efficient, Secretary for Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao says.
Speaking after visiting a cross-boundary coach terminus in Tsim Sha Tsui today, Dr Liao said in Huanggang and Lok Ma Chau passengers can board coaches more quickly and in a more orderly manner.
Dr Liao said Mong Kok is the only station where there are more people than coaches, so the Government has asked operators to increase frequencies to cope with the demand.
On fare prices, she said they are market driven and the Government reviews the issue when necessary.
"What we want now is a regulated fare price so the public can know what they are paying for every time," she said.
"We must be fair, the price they are approaching now is actually an average price whereas before on a very crowded day, they could increase up to $50 to $60. But on the good day, they might reduce it to $20. But they cannot increase or decrease at will as they used to do."
