Road T7 in Ma On Shan will be opened in stages from August 17, providing a new by-pass for traffic.

New access: Road T7 includes 2.3km in noise semi-enclosures and 1.7km in noise barriers, plus extensive landscaping works.

With its completion, the burden on the new town's existing road network will be relieved as traffic in the town centre can be diverted to the 3.2km-long dual two-lane highway.

Construction, at a contract price of $1.386 billion, began in January 2001 and has just been completed.

The works also include the construction of 2.3km in noise semi-enclosures and 1.7km in noise barriers. The installation of 63,000 square metres of noise barriers is the largest ever in a single public works contract.

In conjunction with the construction of Road T7, extensive landscaping works have also been carried out. Eighteen hectares of landscaped area covered with more than 900,000 plants will be provided.
