Infrastructure the focus of CS Beijing visit

*

Chief Secretary Donald Tsang will lead a Government delegation to Beijing to join a working session of the Mainland/Hong Kong Conference on the Co-ordination of Major Infrastructure Projects.

Mr Tsang said the purpose of the visit is to provide updates on the progress of various consultancy studies, such as the road link between Hong Kong and the western Pearl River Delta, and the express rail line between Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

"My work with my colleagues there would be to prepare ourselves for the next round of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Joint Conference to be held very shortly," he said.

At last year's conference on September 20, the two sides agreed to study the feasibility of a Hong Kong-Pearl River west link and a Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong express rail link.

The Hong Kong delegation includes Secretary for Environment, Transport & Works Dr Sarah Liao, Beijing Office Director, Bowen Leung, Deputy Director of Planning Ng Tse Suk-ying, HK Guangdong Co-operation Co-ordination Unit Head Kitty Choi, and Principal Assistant Secretary for Environment, Transport & Works Ava Chiu.

The Mainland delegation is headed by State Development & Reform Commission Vice Minister Zhang Guobao.
