Centre for Health Protection

Learning Habitat Kindergarten & Bilingual Nursery (Hampton Loft) in Yau Tsim Mong will suspend classes until June 15 following a hand, foot and mouth disease outbreak, the Centre for Health Protection says.

Of the eight pupils involved, a three-year-old girl has developed complications and been admitted to Queen Mary Hospital. The others are stable.

The girl came down with a fever and sore throat May 23 and was diagnosed as having herpangina the next day. Her fever subsided on May 25, but she came down with neck pain May 29. On May 30 she had tremors and was hospitalised. She was diagnosed with cerebellitis. She is stable.

Cannan Kindergarten in Whampoa Garden, which has been closed for a week, will suspend classes until June 9 as two new cases have emerged during the surveillance period. The two pupils concerned are stable.

Meanwhile, the 43-year-old male patient at Queen Elizabeth Hospital has tested positive for enterovirus-71. He is stable.
