Two more adults have come down with an enterovirus infection with complications. The 34-year-old woman and 43-year-old man are now stable in Tuen Mun and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals.
Centre for Health Protection Controller Dr Thomas Tsang today said further tests will be conducted to see what types of enterovirus they have.
The woman developed a fever and a headache on May 20 and came down with a rash in her mouth and on her hands and feet two days later. She was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital May 25 with meningitis symptoms.
Her son and daughter also have mild symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease. The school which her three-year-old son attends will suspend classes for two weeks.
The infected man came down with a rash on his hands and feet on May 22 and later developed a fever. He was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital May 28.
His seven-year-old son also had symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease. The school which he attends has suspended classes due to an outbreak of the disease.
School outbreaks
Meanwhile, the centre is investigating a hand, foot and mouth outbreak involving 24 students at a Wong Tai Sin primary school.
Noting Hong Kong has entered the peak season of hand, foot and mouth disease, Dr Tsang said the number of cases and outbreaks will remain high level in the coming two months with sporadic serious cases.
Gene tests have been conducted and there is no substantial genetic change in the virus, he added. The centre will closely monitor the situation and conduct gene tests.
