Mother with enterovirus infection dies
*
Centre for Health Protection

A 35-year-old woman with enterovirus infection has died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Cannan Kindergarten in Whampoa Garden which her elder daughter attends will suspend classes for a week from May 27.

The woman had a rash over her hands on May 12 and further developed a fever and dizziness on May 21. On May 22 she was found collapsed and was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She died the next day.

She tested positive for enterovirus. Further confirmatory tests are pending.

Her two daughters, aged 17 months and four years old, also came down with symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease on May 5 and May 9. The children have sought medical consultation and are now asymptomatic.

Four other children, aged three to four who attended the kindergarten, were also infected with the disease. All have recovered.

Investigations are underway.
