bun-scrambling event
Test of tradition: Kwok Ka-ming (right) wins the annual bun-scrambling competition.
*

A full house of 1,500 spectators turned out to see Kwok Ka-ming win the annual bun-scrambling competition at the Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch early this morning.

First runner-up was Ho Sin-fai and second runner-up was Chung Yuk-chuen. Wong Ka-yan, who got 603 marks, beat the other two female contestants to  become the female champion.

Nine men and three women finalists climbed the 14-metre-tall bun tower and had three minutes to snatch as many buns as they could for the highest scores.

Teams from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macau competed in an invitation relay against teams from Cheung Chau.

The Petrel Athletic Association won the championship while Wing Kai Far Pau Association Ltd was the first runner-up. The second runner-up was Spirit Sports Association.
