Man ill with cholera
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a cholera case involving a 53-year-old man who joined a tour group to India from April 24 to May 1.

He developed stomach pain and diarrhoea on April 30 and sought medical advice on May 4.

He is now in isolation in Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment and is stable.

Laboratory tests showed he had cholera. His family members have no symptoms. The centre is contacting his tour group members.

This is the first cholera case reported this year. There were seven cholera cases in 2008, three cholera cases in 2007, one in 2006 and five in 2005.
