Chief Executive Donald Tsang has lauded the Hong Kong men's soccer team which beat Japan to take the gold medal in the 2009 East Asian Games.
The Hong Kong squad, cheered on by Mr Tsang and 30,000 fans at Hong Kong Stadium, drew 1-1 with Japan after 120 minutes, eventually taking the gold by winning 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
Mr Tsang said he was overwhelmed by the victory, crediting the players' hard work and perseverance.

Meanwhile today, Hong Kong added 10 more gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals, securing its fourth position in the medal tally with 23 gold, 28 silver and 47 bronze.
Hong Kong's other gold medals came in wushu in the taolu men's nanquan and nangun all-round (He Jingde), taolu women's daoshu and gunshu all-round (Geng Xiaoling), taolu women's jianshu and qiangshu all-round (Zheng Tianhui) events; in windsurfing in the Mistral men's lightweight (Cheng Kwok-fai), Mistral men's heavyweight (Leung Ho-tsun), and RS:X women's (Chan Wai-kei) events; in cycling in the men's individual road race (Tang Wang-yip) event; in squash in the women's double (Chan Ho-ling, Chiu Wing-yin), men's double (Lau Siu-wai, Ngan Lun-cheung), and mixed double (Au Chun-ming, Au Wing-chi) events; and in judo in the 55kg men (Yu Kin-ting) event.
Silver medals came in wushu, in the taolu women's nanquan and nandao all-round (Yuen Ka-ying), and taolu men's taijiquan and taijijian all-round (Hei Zhihong) events; in rowing in the men's four (Chu Ka-ming, Kwan Ki-cheong, Leung Chung-ming, Tang Chiu-mang), and lightweight men's quadruple sculls (Chow Kwong-wing, Leung Chun-shek, Lo Ting-wai, So Sau-wah) events; in windsurfing in the Mistral men's lightweight (Ma Yik-kau), and RS:X women's (Chan Hei-man) events; in cycling in the men's individual road race (Yeung Ying-hon) event; and in squash in the women's double (Au Wing-chi, Ng Jia-yunn), men's double (Kwong Yu-shun, Wong Wai-hang), and mixed double (Chiu Wing-yin, Ngan Lun-cheung) events.
Bronze medals came in rowing, in the men's double sculls (Leung Chun-shek, Lok Kwan-hoi), women's double sculls (Tong Siu-man, Wong Jing), men's single sculls (Law Hiu-fung), and women's single sculls (Lee Ka-man); in windsurfing in the Mistral men's heavyweight (Tang Kang-to), and RS:X men's (Chan King-yin) events; in cycling in the men's individual road race (Kwok Ho-ting) event; in athletics in the women's triple jump (Tse Mang-chi), and women's 1,500m (Yiu Kit-ching) events; in judo in the women's 45kg (Lui Wing-yin) event; in badminton in the mixed doubles (Chau Hoi-wah, Wiratama Yohan Hadikusumo) event; in wushu in the taolu men's daoshu and gunshu all-round (Cheng Chung-hang), Sanshou women's 48kg (Chao Ho-yee), and Sanshou women's 52kg (Chim Tin-yan).
