Diabetic smoker dies of swine flu
*

A diabetic smoker who died at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital has been confirmed to have had human swine flu, the Hospital Authority said today.

 

The 33-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital September 16 for repeated vomiting. Her condition deteriorated September 18 and she was transferred to the intensive care unit.

 

She had pneumonia but no significant flu-like symptoms, and died at 1.43pm yesterday. She was later confirmed to have had the human swine flu virus.

 

The case has been reported to the Coroner and the Centre for Health Protection.

 

There were 492 new cases of human swine influenza during the 24 hours up to 2.30pm today, involving 259 males and 233 females aged between eight months and 88 years, bringing the tally to 22,054.
