Canton Road to become arts boulevard

Duk Chang - Chinese Opera association for children
Cultural essence: The Cha Duk Chang Chinese Opera association for children will appear at the Yau Tsim Mong community arts festival.

Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, will become an arts boulevard September 20 where people can see diversified local arts and culture through various performances.

 

The Arts Centre and local artist Law Yuk-mui will hold a workshop called East Asia - Art & Cultural Travel to enhance the public's cultural imagination of the eight other countries and regions participating in the East Asian Games.

 

Popular street singer Wan Kong will show the exclusive charm of Temple Street through his songs and hip-hop dance.

 

Cantonese opera performers Wai Chun-ying and Emily Chan, performers from the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong and Cha Duk Chang Chinese Opera association for children will showcase their talents.

 

Young vocalists will perform the famous Broadway musical Phantom of the Opera. Canto-pop singer Elisa Chan and the City Contemporary Dance Company will also perform.

 

Jade accessories valued at more than $10 million will be on display and there will be a demonstration of jade carving skills. Ten antique vehicles from the Collectors' Car Club of Hong Kong will be on hand for photos.

 

There will also be demonstrations by Olympic table tennis medallists Li Ching and Ko Lai-chak, Indian dances and kung fu.

 

The free festival will run 1pm to 5pm on September 20. For enquiries call 2399 2743.
