Man with drug-resistant infection dies

Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection today confirmed a fatal case of community-associated methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) infection involving a 73-year-old man who died September 5.

 

He developed chest pain, cough and shortness of breath August 25. He was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital August 30 with pneumonia.

 

The patient tested positive for CA-MRSA and influenza-A (subtype H3).
