13 ill with influenza-A

*
Hospital Authority

Thirteen patients in a male Siu Lam Hospital ward for the mentally handicapped have contracted influenza-A.

Aged 29 to 58, they have developed a fever and respiratory symptoms since September 2. They have tested negative for human swine flu. They are being treated in isolation and are in stable condition.

Infection control measures in the ward have been enhanced. Admission to and discharge from the ward have been suspended, and a restricted visiting policy is in place. All other patients and staff in the ward are under close surveillance.
