*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a Legionnaires' disease case involving a 60-year-old Tai Po man.

The patient, who has underlying medical conditions, came down with cough and fever on July 5 and was admitted to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital the following day. He is now critical.

There have been 18 cases of Legionnaires' disease this year. Thirteen were reported last year and 11 in 2007.

To prevent the disease maintain good health and avoid smoking and excessive drinking, handle garden soils, composts and potting mixes with caution, and follow good practices in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of man-made water systems.
