Technician sacked over lost baby body
*

Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital has fired the mortuary technician involved in the misplacement of baby's body.

The hospital's committee of inquiry held its first meeting today and concluded the technician failed to meet the standards required by the hospital in a manner which was unacceptable and indefensible.

"Our hospital will not tolerate any staff with an integrity issue. We will continue to monitor the management and services of the mortuary and [make] continual improvements to provide a safe and quality environment to the public," Hospital Chief Executive Dr Loretta Yam said.

A replacement has been deployed. A new officer will be recruited soon to strengthen monitoring and operation of the mortuary.

The committee will continue its inquiry into the role of other staff involved in the incident.
