Delay in egg testing debunked
*
Centre for Food Safety

The Centre for Food Safety has refuted claims of delays in the testing of eggs and announcing the results, saying it has actively tested various food items including poultry eggs since the start of the melamine issue.

It said today the wholesaler making the claims never asked the centre to test its eggs. It took samples from the wholesaler on October 28 for testing and released the results yesterday.

To expand the scope of testing the centre recently began taking egg samples at import, wholesale and retail levels in the second phase of testing. It has so far tested 108 egg samples of which 69 are from the Mainland. Of them 105 have been found to be satisfactory.

The centre will continue sample testing to safeguard food safety, while the trade should ensure the food they are selling is safe for consumption.
