Girl dies of suspected blood poisoning
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection today reported that a three-year-old Pakistani girl who died on August 11 is believed to have had septicaemia, or blood poisoning.

The Sham Shui Po girl was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital the previous day with upper respiratory infection symptoms, fever and vomiting, and received intensive care. She developed shock, convulsions and blood clots  and died.

Test results are pending. She had no travel history and her family members had no similar symptoms. The Coroner's Court will investigate the case.

Probe continues

Meanwhile, the investigation into the reported illnesses of two girls yesterday is ongoing. One died, possibly from swelling of the heart muscle, while the other is being treated for an encephalitis-like illness, that causes inflammation of the brain.

They have had no previous contact with one another and their illnesses appear unrelated.
