Equestrian events to be smooth, safe: CS
*
Henry Tang
Olympic preparation: Chief Secretary Henry Tang meets Hong Kong ambassadors at hospitality desks during his airport inspection.
*

Chief Secretary Henry Tang says Hong Kong will handle the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events in a prudent and careful manner to ensure the games will run smoothly in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon after inspecting the registration and hospitality facilities, and the horse-handling procedures at the airport, Mr Tang said facilities and measures related to the Olympic Equestrian Events are securely in place.

Noting the first batch of horses participating in the games will arrive in Hong Kong this Saturday, he said it is an unprecedented event for the city because more than 300 horses from 42 countries will gather in Hong Kong for the games.

When asked whether the Government will enhance security measures in the light of the Kunming bus-bombing incidents, Mr Tang said there is no evidence to suggest the incidents were targeting the Equestrian Events, adding Hong Kong's security threat is still at the 'moderate' level.

There is no need to introduce security checks at public transport facilities such as the Mass Transit Railway at this stage, he added.
