More quake relief donations urged
*

Hong Kong has raised about $1 billion for Sichuan's earthquake victims. However the Home Affairs Bureau says it is not enough and today urged the community to donate more due to the huge scale of the disaster.

As of noon about $77.87 million had been raised through the Secretary for Home Affairs Incorporated donations account, including a television fund-raising show on May 17. Together with the Disaster Relief Fund's $300 million and Hong Kong people's direct donations to the Central People's Government and relief organisations, about $1 billion has been raised.

Recent fund-raising activities have been widely supported by District Councils, community and charity groups, civil servants, political parties and other Hong Kong people.

Cheques can be submitted at district office public enquiry service centres and post offices, or addressed to The Secretary for Home Affairs Incorporated - Donations.

People can also make donations via HSBC account number 004-502-256803-001, or Bank of China account number 012-875-0-039683-3. For enquiries call the donations hotline 3142 2201 or click here.

As at 5pm, the Social Welfare Department has received 114 applications and granted 93 for public subscription permits to raise funds for the Sichuan earthquake. Click here for the latest approved list.

The department will process all applications quickly. For doubts about fund-raising activities call 2343 2255.
