Anti-rodent drive launches
*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has launched the 12-week enhancement phase of the anti-rodent campaign.

The target areas include markets, market buildings, fixed pitch hawker stalls, hawker bazaars, food premises and associated rear lanes, cargo-handling areas and the surroundings of these locations.

The department will carry out rodent surveys and disinfestations in target areas' public places and problematic spots, set up poisonous baiting stations and rodent cage traps, and enhance cleaning services to eliminate rodent harbourages.

The department will take enforcement action if officers find a rodent infestation during regular inspections of licensed food premises.

The city-wide rodent infestation rate for 2007 was 4.8%, higher than that of 2.9% in 2006, but generally on a par with the annual rates between 2003 and 2005.
