29 students ill with flu-like symptoms

Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an influenza-like illness outbreak affecting 29 Kowloon Bay primary school students.

Since February 16 the 15 boys and 14 girls aged seven to 10 have come down with fever, cough and a sore throat. Twenty-six consulted private doctors or out-patient clinics and one girl has been admitted to hospital. All are stable.

Staff from the centre visited the school and provided health instructions to its staff.

People should take preventive measures against the disease by observing strict environmental and personal hygiene. Those with symptoms of respiratory tract infection should wear face masks and seek medical advice promptly.

More tips on influenza and its prevention can be found here.
