Food supply

5,300 live pigs available Monday

*

The Food & Health Bureau expects 5,200 live Mainland pigs to be imported on Monday with a local supply of 100, bringing the day's total to 5,300.

Today's live pig supply was 4,328 - with 3,956 from the Mainland and 372 locally raised. The wholesale price ranged from $1,261 to $1,893 per 100 catties.

According to agents, some live pigs could not be transported as scheduled due to continuous heavy snow on the Mainland. While today's actual supply figures therefore are lower than estimated, the situation has improved with more pigs imported than in the previous two days.

The three agents will continue to make the best alternative arrangements to supply adequate live pigs for the market, the bureau added.
