The Beijing Organising Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games and the Hong Kong Government have signed a document on the arrangements for setting up Olympic live sites in Hong Kong.
The committee's Executive Vice-President Jiang Xiaoyu and Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Thomas Chow signed the document in Beijing today, with Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Yau as a witness.
Mrs Yau said Hong Kong is honoured to be one of the Olympic co-host cities. She said the Olympic live sites will create an enthusiastic and pleasant atmosphere for the games. The public can participate in high quality cultural programmes and interactive entertainment activities while enjoying the games.
The sites will be set up in Victoria Park and Sha Tin Park during the Beijing Olympic Games period from August 8 to 24. A live site is also planned at Sha Tin Park on selected dates during the Paralympic Games period from September 6 to 17.
Those who may not have the chance to attend the games in Beijing in person will be able to watch the live broadcasts of sporting competitions on giant screens installed at the sites.
