47 infected with hand, foot and mouth disease

*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed two hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks involving 21 young children in a Mong Kok nursery school and 26 teens in a Central secondary school.

Twelve boys and nine girls from a  Mong Kok nursery school were affected. The children, aged two to four, developed mouth ulcers, fever, and rashes or blisters on their hands or feet from November 23 to December 10.

Twenty of them consulted private doctors or general out-patient clinics. One child was admitted to Caritas Medical Centre and has recovered.

Another case involved 26 boys aged from 12 to 17 in a Central secondary school. They came down with symptoms from November 2 to December 11.

They all consulted private doctors or general out-patient clinics. One boy required hospitalisation and has recovered.

The centre has visited the schools and provided health advice to the management.
