Anniversary celebration subsidy hits $11m
*

The Government has spent about $11 million so far to subsidise activities held by districts and local organisations for celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing today told lawmakers the 18 District Councils have also allocated $13 million to subsidise the activities.

The former Celebrations Co-ordination Office has spent $5.1 million on the production of 852,800 souvenirs for distribution at celebration activities. The Home Affairs Department has also allocated an additional $299,000 for the production of 115,000 paper fans for distribution.

Mr Tsang said the Government did not ask political parties or District Council members to help with the distribution, nor had it received any offer from members to assist.
