The Centre for Food Safety has suspended processing applications for importing poultry, game birds, and their products from Saskatchewan, Canada, following confirmation of an avian flu H7N3 case on a farm there.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced that highly pathogenic H7N3 avian flu has been detected at a commercial poultry operation in the province. The virus is different to the strain circulating in Asia, Africa and Europe. H7N3 is not normally associated with serious human illness.
The centre is seeking more information on the case.
