Another boy infected with enterovirus

Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an Enterovirus-71 case involving a one-year-old boy who attends a day-care centre where other EV-71 cases have occurred.

The boy has fully recovered, bringing the number of reported cases this year to 10. His three family members have no symptoms.

He came down with a fever, an oral ulcer and a rash on August 31. He was examined by a private doctor and did not need hospitalisation.

Eleven children from the day-care centre have come down with hand-foot-mouth symptoms since August 19. Seven have recovered and the others are stable. The facility is under surveillance.

There were 16 EV-71 cases last year and eight in 2005. For tips on preventing the disease click here, or call 2833 0111.
