Boy sick with enterovirus

*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an enterovirus-71 case involving a one-year-old boy, the ninth reported this year.

He came down with a fever, an oral ulcer and a rash on his hands and feet on August 31. He recovered after consulting a private doctor. His home contacts have no symptoms.

Six boys and four girls aged 17 months to five years at the patient's day-care centre came down with symptoms August 19 to 31. Seven have recovered and the others are stable. The facility is being put under medical surveillance.

There were 16 EV-71 cases last year and eight in 2005. More tips about the disease and its prevention can be found here, or by calling 2833 0111.
