35 ill in respiratory infection outbreak
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an upper respiratory infection outbreak affecting 20 residents and 15 staff at a Kwun Tong mental home.

The 12 men and 23 women, aged 23 to 58, developed a cough, sore throat and runny nose between July 31 and August 25.

Thirty-three consulted private doctors, out-patient clinics or emergency departments. No hospitalisation was required. Thirty-one have since recovered and the others are in stable condition.

Laboratory tests are in progress. The centre's staff have visited the institution and offered health tips to staff. It has also put the institution under close watch.
