President Hu then addressed an assembly of PLA troops in the hall and toured their living quarters and talked to soldiers.

Earlier this morning, President Hu met with 10th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee Vice-chairman Tung Chee Hwa. Tonight he will attend a cultural show celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Tomorrow, President Hu will attend the inauguration ceremony of the third-term HKSAR Government and open the Shenzhen Bay Bridge before ending his three-day Hong Kong visit.

Giant pandas presentation

Meanwhile, State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan, accompanied by Chief Secretary Rafael Hui, officiated at the presentation ceremony of two young giant pandas to Hong Kong at Ocean Park.

Mr Tang also visited the two giant pandas, Le Le and Ying Ying, at their new habitat and learned how the new couple are adapting to their new environment.

Mr Hui thanked the Central People's Government for giving a pair of young giant pandas to Hong Kong, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the HKSAR.

He said that Ying Ying and Le Le have been adapting very well to their new environment since their arrival in Hong Kong on April 26. The cubs have become even friendlier under the care of the experts at Ocean Park and those from Wolong who came to Hong Kong to help take care of the pair.

"I believe Ying Ying and Le Le will bring about what their names suggest, and that is, prosperity, joy and a thriving economy to the Hong Kong people," Mr Hui added.

Ying Ying and Le Le are in excellent health after a two-month quarantine and adaptation period. Together with panda pair An An and Jia Jia, the young couple will meet the public at Ocean Park from tomorrow.
