Imported Dengue fever case confirmed
*
HPC

The Centre for Health Protection has urged people to guard against Dengue fever after an imported case was confirmed today, the fifth this year.

The patient, a 30-year-old Sai Wan Ho man, developed a fever and mild headache on April 10. He consulted a doctor on April 15, was admitted to a private hospital on April 16 and was discharged yesterday.

He travelled to Indonesia March 31 to April 8. His travel companion has no symptoms.

There were 31 Dengue fever cases last year, all imported.

To prevent Dengue fever:

* put all used cans and bottles into dustbins with covers;

* change water for plants at least once a week, leaving no water in the saucers underneath flower pots;

* cover tightly all water containers, wells and water storage tanks;

* keep all drains free from blockage;

* travellers should wear long-sleeved tops and trousers;

* use insect repellent on exposed parts of the body; and,

* use mosquito screens or nets when rooms are not air-conditioned.

For the latest information on the Dengue fever situation outside Hong Kong visit the Travel Health Service website.
