Green team: Primary school students plant trees in Eastern District.
*

More than 100,000 shrubs and trees will be planted in 18 districts in the next two months to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Speaking at the launch ceremony for the Eastern District Tree Planting Day at in Siu Sai Wan Road Garden today, Acting Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Donald Tong said the programme will encourage people to support greening activities.

"The active participation of the community will strengthen the building of a sustainable green living environment and enhance our sense of belonging to the community," Mr Tong said.

More than 3,000 shrubs and trees were planted today by 350 10-year-old students from 22 Eastern District primary schools.

The Tree Planting & Greening Project will be held in April and May as one of the major celebration events for the 10th anniversary. Apart from today's activity, the programme also includes other district tree planting events.
