Tests conducted on contact lens solution
*
Department of Health

The Department of Health has taken 20 samples of lens solution manufactured by Advanced Medical Optics from the local market for sterility tests and results are expected in three weeks.

Its staff met with Customs & Excise Department representatives today to discuss the voluntary recall of 10 lots of four types of contact lens solution the company manufactures.

The department has set up a hotline - 2125 1133 - operated during office hours to provide health advice to consumers.

It urged contact lens users to stop using solutions from the affected lots. They should consult their doctors in case of discomfort or infection and may also call the manufacturer's hotlines,  2401 5811/2, with any queries.

According to information provided by the manufacturer, tests found the concerned solutions produced at its manufacturing plant on the Mainland had microbial contamination.

The Centre for Health Protection is liaising with local ophthalmologists, optometrists and the Hospital Authority to be on the alert for suspicious cases of infection.

Contact lens users are reminded to observe good hygiene in handling the lens, solutions and utensils to prevent contact lens-associated infection. Details can be found on the Centre for Health Protection's website.
