Hospital celebrates facelift, 45th anniversary
*

Castle Peak Hospital - the oldest and most well known psychiatric hospital in Hong Kong - celebrated the completion of its redevelopment and its 45th anniversary with an open day today.

Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr York Chow, Hospital Authority Chief Executive Shane Solomon, Director of Architectural Services Yue Chi-hang, the hospital's Governing Committee Chairman Prof John Leong, New Territories West Cluster Chief Executive Dr Albert Lo and Castle Peak Hospital Chief Executive Dr Joseph Lee officiated at the opening ceremony.

Since its establishment in 1961, Castle Peak Hospital has been continuously improving and enhancing its service. The latest facelift has boosted its rehabilitation environment, to meet the community's needs.

The Government contributed $1.47 billion, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust $500 million towards the redevelopment, which provided ward buildings, an out-patient service block, administrative block and other rehabilitation facilities. The work began in 1992.

The facility now provides comprehensive psychiatric services including out-patient, in-patient, community outreach and mental health education. It offers 1,300 beds in a more home-like environment and has adopted a greener approach.

The open day featured games, an educational exhibit and talks, visits to wards and facilities, a performance by the Hospital Authority Chinese Orchestra and performances by hospital clients and volunteers.
