Glittering launch: Austrian Consul-General Dr Maria Moya-Goetsch, Postmaster General Tam Wing-pong and Austrian Post Philatelic Department Director Dr Erich Haas launch the world's first crystal-clad stamps.

*

Hongkong Post has jointly launched special crystal-clad stamps with Austrian Post - the first move of its kind in the world.

Speaking at the issuing ceremony today, Postmaster General Tam Wing-pong said the stamps carry a fireworks theme, and feature Victoria Harbour and the Vienna Prater.

"The issue not only marks the very close and amicable relationship we have with Austrian Post, but also symbolises the strong business and cultural ties between the two communities in Hong Kong and Austria," he said.

Commending the two postal administrations' effort to issue the world's first fusion of crystal fabric with stamps, Mr Tam said their glittering effect is extraordinary, and they are highly collectable items for philatelists, and will promote tourism in Hong Kong and Austria.
