Elderly fitness corners have been set up at 92 parks, playgrounds and sitting-out areas throughout the territory, with fitness equipment designed for senior citizens, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department says.
The department said today as the elderly population has been rising in recent years, so was seniors' demand for recreation and sports facilities.
The department, in consultation with the Department of Health, has introduced more than 10 types of tailor-made fitness equipment in its parks, playgrounds and sitting-out areas since January, 2002.
With this equipment, the elderly can stretch their muscles and improve their level of co-ordination while enjoying the fun of exercise. By forming the habit of regular exercise, they can foster a healthier lifestyle.
The elderly fitness corners are carpeted with resilient mats, and instruction displays to advise on safe use of the equipment.
