Antiviral drugs well-stocked

Hong Kong has a 3-million dose stockpile of antiviral drugs for bird flu, and another 4 million will be available early next year, the Centre for Health Protection says.

It will maintain a target level of 20 million doses of antiviral drugs, including oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza), and has arranged with pharmaceutical companies to deliver the rest in batches by 2007.

With the Indonesian bird-flu outbreak, the Department of Health has enhanced port health measures, and is working with the Hospital Authority on infection control measures.
