70-year-old woman ill with Dengue fever
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed a 70-year-old woman has Dengue fever, bringing the year's number of cases to 19, all imported.

The woman came down with fever, vomiting and a rash on September 11. She travelled to Indonesia on August 28 and was admitted to hospital upon her return to Hong Kong on September 15. She is still in hospital, in stable condition. Her travel companions do not have any symptoms.

People should stay alert to the threat of Dengue fever and take measures against mosquito breeding. Travellers should wear long-sleeved tops and trousers, use insect repellent and mosquito screens or nets when rooms are not air-conditioned.

If feeling unwell after returning from abroad, they should consult a doctor as soon as possible and provide details of their travel to the doctor.
