Yuen Long photos go on display

Twelve competition-winning photographs will be showcased at Yuen Long Theatre from May 21 to 31.

The Camera Yuen Long: Art-in-Subways Project aims to use art to beautify six subways between the Shap Pat Heung Interchange and the Tin Shui Wai West Interchange along Yuen Long Highway.

In focus: Winning entries Seeking Relics in Yuen Long by Leung Bo-ki (first), Convenient West Rail by Lin Pui-yee (second) and Scenery of Yuen Long by Au Chin-ki (third).

1,000 shots

Photos selected from the competition will be put on ceramic tiles for display on the walls of the six subways. The installation will open later this year.

The competition was divided into six themes - festivals and customs, life and living, leisure moments, natural scenery, transition: so far so near, and nostalgia and relics.

Among the 189 entries involving more than 1,000 photos, 12 sets of outstanding works were selected, judged on compliance with competition requirements, conformity with the locality, creativity, imagination, artistic merit and technical competence.

The winner got a $15,000 award, second place earned $12,000 and third $10,000, while outstanding awardees got $5,000.
