Flu season under control

*
Department of Health

The Department of Health says Hong Kong can cope with the latest influenza season, with its effective surveillance system, adequate treatment facilities and vaccination of high-risk people.

Noting the rise in flu patients seeking treatment at hospitals, the department advised they instead consider consulting family doctors or going to Government out-patient clinics.

The best way to prevent flu is to improve body resistance with a healthy lifestyle and to maintain good ventilation. Patients should take adequate rest, drink plenty of water and consume nutritious food that is easy to digest. They should wear masks, wash hands frequently, and cover the mouth and nose while coughing, to prevent the virus' spread.

Patients with severe and persistent symptoms, like chest pain, coughing blood, wheezing, shortness of breath or complications, are advised to seek urgent treatment. As children, the elderly and those with chronic diseases are more vulnerable to flu, they should also seek immediate help.
