Eric Li has been appointed to replace Victor Hui as Chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited, while four new members have been appointed to the Board of Directors. The current two vice-chairmen and all the existing non-official directors have been reappointed.

The board's term of appointment is for two years, effective from April 1.

The new members are Dr Julian Chang, Martin Liao, Tang Kwai-nang and Carlson Tong.  

Vivien Fung Lau has been appointed as the representative of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong.

Secretary for Home Affairs Dr Patrick Ho said board members came from diverse backgrounds with extensive expertise in fields such as sports administration, medicine, academics, education, business and management.   

These disciplines of knowledge are important for the effective operation and long-term development of the institute, Dr Ho said, adding he looked forward to working with the incoming chairman and the new board of directors in furthering the development of elite sports in Hong Kong.

"Mr Li's extensive experience and well-proven credentials in heading various public bodies will certainly provide strong and clear leadership in the institute's work," Dr Ho said.

He thanked outgoing chairman Victor Hui for his dedication and enthusiasm in advancing elite sports development over the past term, noting that Mr Hui had laid a solid foundation for the institute's work.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude for his steadfast leadership and admirable resilience in steering the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited to a new direction," Dr Ho said.

The institute was established on October 1, 2004.  Its aim is to provide an environment in which sporting talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in sport. It provides sports facilities and services such as coaching, training, sports science, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, athlete affairs and education, applied research and sports information.
