The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed a malaria case involving a 31-year-old woman, bringing the year's total to four cases, all imported.
The woman travelled to Guinea in Africa in November and returned to Hong Kong on February 10 with fever, malaise and neck pain. She was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on February 13 and transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital yesterday. Her condition is stable.
As the woman lived on Cheung Chau before admission, a health talk will be held tomorrow to alert residents on precautions against malaria.
There were 37 cases of malaria reported last year and 28 in 2003, all imported.
