Gov't watching Vietnam bird flu situation
*

The avian flu situation in Vietnam is being monitored by the Government, Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr York Chow says, adding that the chance of infection is low.

"We are always concerned about Vietnam mainly because the chickens have not been vaccinated. There are also a fair number of ducks and other waterfowl that can have the avian flu virus in their body," Dr Chow said, adding the outbreak is localised in some rural areas and not concentrated in the cities.

"We have instituted advice to all aircraft that fly between Hong Kong and Vietnam. We have given leaflets to all passengers. We also keep the names of all passengers on each flight so we can trace them in case of need."
