Cheung Chau cleaning services assured
*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

Cheung Chau's cleaning services will not be affected despite the wage dispute between the contractor and workers, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department says, calling for a peaceful settlement.

The department has been maintaining close contact with the contractor to ensure continuous service provision.

On the dispute over the deduction of wages for meal breaks in calculating the workers' monthly wage, there is no evidence the contractor has breached the terms and conditions of the employment contract or violated employment laws. However, the department hopes the contractor can come to a mutually-acceptable agreement.

Workers are urged not to take any drastic action at the expense of public health and hygiene.

The department will allocate additional manpower to the island in case the contractor cannot maintain normal cleaning services. Close liaison with relevant parties and departments will continue to resolve this case as soon as possible.
