Secretary for Home Affairs Dr Patrick Ho says the Government will actively explore ways to integrate creative ideas with investment and technology and bring them to fruition.
Opening the Cultural Pavilion at the First Shenzhen International Cultural Industry Fair today, Dr Ho said Hong Kong has excellent advantages in developing its cultural industries - a driving force for economic growth.
Hong Kong is not only the nurturing ground of creative talent, but also a highly developed economy with strong intellectual property protection.
"Its neighbour, the Pearl River Delta region, is an emerging market of cultural products, as well as a haven for creative people and a logistics support centre for cultural industries," he said.
Teamwork beneficial
Noting the importance of keeping growth momentum, Dr Ho said the Government, artists, investors, entrepreneurs, business associations and the arts and culture sector should work together to explore new frontiers.
"We will encourage people to be more creative and inspiring, to adopt new mindsets and perspectives, and to go beyond the trodden path and come up with their originality," he said.
Dr Ho toured the pavilion and was strongly impressed by the outstanding exhibits presented by Hong Kong's publishing, design, printing, comics and digital entertainment industries.
The pavilion, entitled "From Idea To Power", is jointly organised by the Home Affairs and Information Services Departments to promote Hong Kong as the regional hub for creativity and design.
The exhibition showcases the latest developments and some 300 pieces of award-winning and innovative products and designs of the five creative industries of Hong Kong. It will be held at Shenzhen's China Hi-Tech Fair Exhibition Centre until November 22.
