Better prepared: Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr York Chow inspects the launch of the flu vaccination programme at a North Point elderly home. |

The influenza vaccination programme has been launched, allowing 250,000 people to receive jabs before the usual seasonal peak.
Visiting a North Point elderly home today, Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr York Chow said the Government has ensured vaccine supply will not be affected by overseas factors.
He said the public and private sectors need to work together to provide vaccinations to hinder the seasonal flu spread.
Helping the needy
The Government's programme, developed in accordance with recommendations of the Centre for Health Protection's Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases, is tailor-made for those at high risk and the needy who are less likely to access vaccinations from the private medical sector.
The programme will cover up to 250,000 people, and the majority of vaccines will be given this month and in December. For details, click here.
Dr Chow said the Government has received positive support from the private medical sector and non-government organisations to provide vaccination to people who are not covered by the programme. Many organisations are providing the vaccine on a non-profit making basis.
