18 ill after hotel buffet

*
HPC logo (Eng version)

The Centre for Health Protection and the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department are investigating three suspected food poisoning cases which affected 18 people who ate at a Wan Chai hotel.

Four men and seven women, aged 20 to 66, developed fever and gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhoea and abdominal pain after a buffet dinner at the hotel on July 28.

On the same day, another male and two females, aged 14 to 48, developed fever, abdominal pain and diarrhoea after a buffet dinner there.

The third case involved four boys, 15 to 16, who also had a buffet dinner there two days later.

All are in stable condition after treatment, and hospitalisation was not required.

The centre's investigations suggest it was an outbreak of bacterial food poisoning. Both departments will closely monitor the situation.
