Free flu vaccinations available for the elderly

*
Department of Health

Senior citizens 65 or above on Comprehensive Social Security Assistance or medical waivers granted by the Hospital Authority or Social Welfare Department are eligible to receive free influenza vaccinations.

In 2003-04, in the light of SARS and avian influenza cases in neighbouring areas, the Government has offered free vaccinations to selected groups of people who may have higher risk of infection.

To minimise the risk among the elderly, senior CSSA recipients or medical waivers granted by the authority or department, and who have not received any influenza vaccination since the winter of 2003, are now eligible to receive a free injection.

Eligible elderly bringing their ID card and relevant certificate can attend general outpatient clinics under the authority for the shot, which is voluntary.
