Family services review panel set up
*
Social Welfare Department

The Social Welfare Department has established a Review Panel on family services in Tin Shui Wai. The panel will study the district's family services, and identify and advise on areas of improvement. It will issue a report to the Director of Social Welfare in six months.

Aaron Wan has been named panel chairman. He is a member of the Social Welfare Advisory Committee and has a long association with the welfare sector. Panel members include Professor Nelson Chow and Dr Sandra Tsang who are respectively experts in social work and clinical psychology.

The panel's terms of reference are:

* to review the provision and service delivery process of family services in Tin Shui Wai, in the wake of the recent family tragedy;

* recommend measures to strengthen the effectiveness, co-ordination and other aspects concerning service provision and delivery of family services in Tin Shui Wai; and,

* recommend any other issues concerning the handling of family cases.

The panel will review generally the existing provision and delivery of services for families in the area and identify areas for improvement taking into account how the recent case was handled in terms of procedures and co-ordination.

The panel will first meet with Government departments and other agencies. Later it will meet with interested parties who wish to make their views known.

In considering what recommendations to put forward, reference will also be drawn from other countries concerning helping these families as and when necessary so as to strengthen effectiveness in service provision and delivery.
